Lindsay Parkhurst Supports Property Tax Referendum
Republican House Candidate Lindsay Parkhurst (R – Kankakee) running in the 79th District announced support of a county referendum in Grundy County on the ballot this November. The referendum would send a strong message to Springfield and the Illinois Attorney General to work to lower property taxes in Illinois and offers a solution to lawmakers.
“The tax burden in Illinois is among the highest in the country and our property taxes are the main driver,” Rep. Parkhurst said.
According to the Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C. based independent think tank, Illinois property taxes are the 2nd highest in the nation.
“True property tax relief is needed for the residents of this great state and one way this can be achieved is to increase the homeowner exemptions to help lower our property tax bills,” Rep. Parkhurst continued.
The referendum will be on the general election ballot which will read “Should the State of Illinois increase the residential and senior homeowner exemptions to help reduce property taxes for the residents of Grundy County?” Voters will be able to vote YES or No. The election will take place on Nov. 6 and early voting began on Sept. 27.
